The 100th Commitment, Passing the Torch | China Case Study Tour in Suzhou and the 100th Case Master Mini Growth Camp Conclude Successfully

On the afternoon of November 12, the China Case Study Tour in Suzhou and the 100th Case Master Mini Growth Camp were successfully held at the Finance and Economics Science Building of the School of Business, Soochow University. As the inaugural host of the first Mini Growth Camp in June 2023, the School of Business at Soochow University once again took up the baton of tradition, serving as the organizer for this milestone 100th session. With unwavering passion and professionalism, it continues to advance the educational legacy of case-based teaching.



Distinguished guests at this event included Professor Chen Shimin from CEIBS, Professor Wang Yaoyu, Vice Dean of Suzhou University Business School, Professor Zhou Zhongsheng, Vice Dean of Suzhou University Business School, Professor Wang Weisha, Deputy Director of the MBA Center at Suzhou University Business School, Associate Professor Su Zihao from Suzhou University Business School, along with faculty members from universities across the Yangtze River Delta region, faculty from Suzhou University Business School, and the China International Business Case Library team. Over 70 distinguished scholars and emerging talents gathered to discuss and exchange insights on case teaching methodologies, development approaches, and innovative pathways.


At the outset of the event, Professor Wang Yaoyu, Vice Dean of the School of Business at Soochow University, delivered the opening address. He extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the university faculty members who had traveled from afar. He noted that the Case Master Mini Growth Camp, from its inaugural session to its 100th iteration, represents not merely a numerical milestone but a deepening cultivation and growth of the case-based teaching philosophy. This journey embodies a steadfast commitment to the belief that “talent is nurtured through cases.”



Subsequently, Professor Chen Shimin explored the integrated approach to case teaching, development, and research from a multidisciplinary perspective, focusing on the award-winning case study “The Profitability Dilemma of the Front-End Warehouse Model.” Professor Chen generously shared his teaching methodology alongside models from the world's top business schools, engaging with faculty members to discuss the applicability of these approaches across different business disciplines. During his presentation, Professor Chen employed A, B, C case studies to immerse educators in the engaging and enlightening learning process facilitated by sequential case teaching. This narrative-driven approach sparked profound reflection among attendees, igniting passionate discussions and continuous bursts of intellectual exchange. Finally, Professor Chen brought the discussion back to the practical application of case-based teaching. Having been immersed and inspired, the faculty actively exchanged ideas, posed questions, and generated further insights for teaching innovation.



Immediately following, Associate Professor Su Zihao from the School of Business at Soochow University shared his growth experiences and personal journey from the perspective of those embarking on case teaching and writing. His candid and sincere yet humorous presentation skillfully complemented Professor Chen Shimin's high-level insights as a seasoned case master, precisely addressing the pain points and uncertainties faced by many young faculty members and resonating deeply with the entire audience.



During the subsequent Q&A session, teachers in attendance actively posed questions based on their own teaching experiences, focusing on challenges in case development and innovations in teaching methods. Professor Chen Shimin patiently addressed each query and engaged in detailed discussions, ensuring every participant left with valuable insights.


As the event drew to a close, Professor Wang Weisha, serving as host, brought the grand gathering to a perfect conclusion with three heartfelt expressions of gratitude: Thank you to Professor Chen for his generous sharing of knowledge and to Teacher Su for her sincere insights; thank you to the China International Business Case Library team for their meticulous preparation; and thank you to all the teachers for their active participation. Amidst a warm and joyful atmosphere, the 100th Case Master Mini Growth Camp came to a successful conclusion.
